Norbev switched from bulk bottled nitrogen to a Dalco nitrogen generating system in 2009 and haven’t looked back. Sam Fleck Production Manager at Norbev found the system to cost “approximately 50% of bottled gas and the equipment paid for itself in just over a year”.
Norbev is a leading beverage packaging company for brands such as Lucozade, Coca-cola multipacks and the Britvic beverage group. Packaging still and carbonated drinks, Norbev require a clean gas with a positive pressure of between one and five bar in their three filling lines.
They also use nitrogen at several stages of the packaging process:
- In still beverages to provide a firmer bottle for easier labelling
- To drive the dosing nozzles on their liquid machines
Previously Norbev purchased bulk bottled nitrogen but found it difficult to keep a continuous supply available as their operation runs 24/7.
Sam Fleck notes that they “were forced to exchange partially full banks to cover weekends as there were no deliveries”. This led to stoppages on the line as the banks of nitrogen were disconnected and reconnected, so Norbev were keen to come up with a solution that allowed them to control their availability of nitrogen to suit the business.
Dalco initially approached Norbev with the solution to their Nitrogen supply problem. Sam Fleck commented that the rising sales of still drinks and increasing price of bulk bottled nitrogen led them to invest in a Dalco Nitrogen generating system.
